Create wealth, Get rich, Millionaire

Ready to stop working for someone else?

In real estate, the leverage of a mortgage gives you tax benefits and cash flow to build equity with. In a business, your leverage is people. The talents and time of your employees help you grow your business.

Isn’t it time you took your talent, energy and enthusiasm and used them to create wealth for yourself?

Do you see a market opportunity?

Are you willing to accept personal, professional or financial risks to chase it?

Do you take actions and assume responsibility for the outcome?

Do you fear failure?

Or do you see it as a chance to take a different direction?

If you answered “yes”, “yes”, “yes”, “no” and “yes”, then you probably understand that seeing failure as opportunity is the greatest indicator of your ability to create wealth.

If you’re honest and admit you fear failure, don’t worry. These are skills you can learn and eventually turn into habits.

Family

REALTORS, members of the National Association of REALTORS have always been referred to as a family. And, if NAR is the dad then The Women’s Council of REALTORS would be the younger, cuter sister.

The true meaning of the NAR family is that we treat each other with respect & courtesy. We help each other succeed and we protect the family name. I’ve always been proud to be a REALTOR and now I’m prouder still that my daughter will be joining our family.

Yes folks, she passed the exam. On her first try I might add. I’m so proud of her and looking forward to watching her learn about our industry. She’ll be moving back to Las Vegas as soon as the legislative session is out.

I’ve already told her she must join WCR and get her Performance Management Network designation. I also wouldn’t be surprised to see her get active in the local chapter.

The Future of Radio?

Suddenly, everyone is talking about satellite radio.

Right now there are two companies providing subscriber based programming: XM Satellite Radio and Sirius Satellite Radio.

XM is the larger of the two with approximately 3 million subscribers. Last week they announced the addition of G. Gordon Liddyand Dr. Laura Schlesingerto their talk line-up.

Their rival, Sirius Satellite Radio, has about 1 million subscribers but they also have a not so secret weapon-Howard Stern, who will be moving to their line-up in January of 2006.

Sirius CEO Mel Karmazin has also been negotiating to offer their service through Apple to all those ipod owners.

Finally, there’s also been speculation about a merger between the two companies creating a monopoly in this growing industry.

Do we really need to pay for radio? I imagine that’s the same question that was asked when cable television first began to scrabble for subscribers and look what happened to them. I’ve no doubt that people will pay for quality as well as commercial and censorship free programming.

All this makes me wonder…is it time to invest (Sirius or XM) in this fledgling industry?

The Apprentice

Is anyone else keeping score?

2 wins for the street smart team-1 win for the book smart team.

Tonight guitar playing Danny got the boot but the big surprise was Verna’s resignation. Okay, not so much of a surprise since she had a melt down last week but still….it does make for good TV.

By the way, did you catch Danny’s final song in the cab? Why do I get the feeling that he wasn’t after a job in the Trump Organization but a job on TV?

What would you do to get on TV?

Who would you want to work for?

Martha Stewart or Donald Trump?

Yes, “The Domestic Diva” will be joining “The Donald” for a second version of The Apprentice.

Martha, love her or hate her, will be released from federal prison at the beginning of March and presumably filming will begin shortly thereafter.

It will be interesting to see if a female perspective will change the outcome of the contest. Will we finally have a woman apprentice under Martha’s tutelage?

One thing I know for sure, Mark Burnett, the producer of both the Apprentice and Survivor, is the ultimate deal maker bringing together two high profile individuals who are great at self-promoting to raise his own profile and that of his television shows.

spam, spam go away…

Let me start out by saying..I hate spam!

I am, of course, talking about the unwanted e-mail that appears hourly in my Outlook selling me all kinds of products to decrease my waistline, increase certain unnamed private parts, and sell me every type of mood enhancing drug. There are countries attempting to protect their treasury and women whose husband’s are never home. Warnings about men hiding under my car and solicitations to send business cards to kid with cancer.

Like most of you, I have a spam filter that is supposed to keep the garbage out of my inbox but still they get through. 100, 200, sometimes more per day. And, to add insult to injury, while letting through the spam my filter stops legitimate e-mail. 4 times in the past 2 weeks I have had a “real” e-mail get caught in the spam filter.

One day I spent a half hour sifting through the debris of my filter (2,000+ messages) looking for an expected e-mail. I also know that my outgoing e-mail has been subject to filtering when I send a message and never hear back from the recipient.

What can be done to stop this? Not much but I do have one or two requests.

If you have a spam filter, don’t forget to check it occasionally just to make sure there is no “good” mail stuck in there.

If you are sending an e-mail put your full name in the “from” box. If you don’t know how to do this-find out ASAP. E-mail that shows an address (e.g. 123@aol.com) instead of a person’s name is more likely to be sucked into spam filter limbo.

And finally, if you are sending me an e-mail and I don’t respond in 24 hours, please try again or call me. I respond to all my e-mails (except those referenced above) and if you haven’t heard from me you are probably in the filter.

Despite my seemingly poor outlook (pun intended *lol*) about the state of e-mail, I am a huge fan. This technology has allowed us more freedom and productivity then ever before. If I have to put up with sifting through silly and stupid e-mails to get 24/7 access and productivity-I”ll take it.

Exit Realty

I recently affiliated myself with Exit Realty Unlimited a company owned by my good friend Jackie Porter. Jackie and I have done business together for years and when the opportunity came up to work together I was excited to relocate my license.

Jackie is a long time WCR member having served as local chapter president, state chapter president, and governor. Jackie’s partner Trish Nashis currently an officer with the local chapter.

Exit Realty believes the most important consideration in building an international company through franchising is to realize that our function is to provide opportunities for others!

The five most important opportunities we have identified include:

Freedom

Personal Growth

Financial Growth and Rewards

Developing a Life and not just a Lifestyle

Supporting the Growth of Others You will achieve the ULTIMATE in SUCCESS if you approach Brokerage from the point of view of the other person’s dream!

I am so happy to associate with a company whose philosophy so closely matches my own!

Just Good Business

Dean Flaherty and the College of Business at UNLV are continuously looking for opportunities to provide programs and services that will benefit students, faculty, and the community.

One of the programs I am excited about is the Donald W. Reynolds Governor’s Cup a nation-wide business plan competition for students. The competition pits students in Nevada, Arkansas, and Oklahoma against each other for the most developed business plan.

The event will culminate in a gala dinner hosted by Governor Guinn on April 27th in Reno or Carson City.

This competition begins laying the groundwork for the University’s move toward future entrepreneurship programs and degree.

This move to entrepreneurism reflects the character of our city and state. Las Vegas has been named number one in entreprenuerism and one of the best places to do business. We have a larger then average percentage of women owned business as well.

The Apprentice is Back!

This season is all about “book smart” vs “street smart.” As a member of the street smart camp, you can imagine which side I am cheering for.

Since the high school grads make three times the income of the college grads they named themselves Net Worth Corp.

The college graduates named themselves Magna Corp for Magna Cum Laude meaning high honors.

The task was just so-so although I had to laugh at Danny the Chief Morale Officer!

By the way, is it me or does the apartment seem nicer this time around? Less flash, more class.

And Carolyn’s skirts are shorter!

Welcome

A blog or web log is simply a journal posted to my website. This journal acts as a forum for me to communicate with you. But, the best part is that you can communicate back by posting a comment for any entry.

I’ll be using this space to keep you informed on my travels, speeches, business information, and even my dreams.

I hope you will find it to be an interesting place to visit and maybe even to post a comment.

I also hope that someone other then my mother is reading this! (Hi Mom!)

As you know last month in Orlando, Florida I was installed as the 2005 President of the Women’s Council of REALTORS®.  600 people attended this great event. Many of you have asked me for a printed version of my speech. If you are still interested you can find it here.

I’ll also post my bi-monthly column for Connections magazine and link to Southwest Exchange’s quarterly newsletter.

That’s all for now. Check back often for updates.
